whg colleagues sent ripples of joy through Walsall last week as part of Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Over 470 acts of kindness were carried out by the leading Midland’s landlord, which included an afternoon tea, and gifting pre-loved clothing and essential items such as toiletries.
whg’s Kindness Champions held a pop-up shop in Blakenall on 16 February where families received recycled books and clothes which had been donated by colleagues.
Customers were asked to pledge an act of kindness for someone else, in exchange for items at the event.
Elsewhere, local heroes were recognised with certificates, vouchers and awards for being the ‘roots of the community’.
These included Valerie, who arranges day trips for other customers, and sisters Kayleigh and Carrie, who give free clothing to those in need.
Residents in the housing association’s wellbeing schemes also reaped the benefits of kindness and were treated to afternoon tea to combat loneliness.
Connie Jennings, Director of Stronger Communities at whg, said: “It was important for us to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day as a way of thanking those who work alongside whg to support people in local communities.
“Studies show that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference to someone’s wellbeing, benefitting their mental health and reducing blood pressure.
“These activities helped us remind customers that we are here when they need us. There is support available, from us and from other caring people in their communities.”
whg’s Stronger Communities Team aims to support people and communities to live independently and have lives which are healthy and happy by tackling the social determinants of health.
The Kindness Champions service, funded by NHS Charities via Walsall Together Walsall Integrated Care Partnership, is a group of customers who help other customers tackle loneliness and isolation and get involved with local activities.
