Fire doors
Fire doors are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, protecting escape routes and other homes.
Fire doors
Fire doors are usually:
- your flat entrance door
- doors in communal corridors, often near stairs or lifts
- service cupboard doors in communal areas
They only work properly if they are in good condition and not altered.
You should never remove or adjust the closing device, wedge a fire door open or make changes to the door.

It is important to check your door regularly. Look for damage to the door, frame, hinges or seals. Open the door fully and let it close on its own. It should shut firmly into the frame without you pushing it.
If you notice any damage or if your door does not close properly, report it to us straight away.
Report a fire safety concern
Whether you are calling or emailing about a repair, rent or a general enquiry, our friendly and professional team are here to help.
If you live in a block with five or more floors, we carry out an annual check of your flat entrance door. We need access to both sides of the door and the visit usually takes a few minutes. We also inspect communal fire doors every three months.
