A limited number of final apartments are becoming available at Nightingale House, our housing scheme for over 55s set within Wolverhampton’s iconic former Royal Hospital, as the last phase of the restoration completes.

Nightingale House is already home to a friendly community of over-55s who have settled in and made it home. These final 10 apartments offer the same thoughtfully designed apartments and shared spaces, within a place that feels welcoming from the moment you arrive.

This Grade II Listed building has been thoughtfully transformed into one and two-bedroom apartments for rent, offering modern living while preserving its historic character.

The first residents moved in during 2025, and these 10 apartments form the second and final phase of the restoration. They will be available starting February 2026 with interest expected to be high.

Inside Nightingale House

The former Royal Hospital wards have been thoughtfully reconfigured into 48 unique homes while preserving the charm and heritage of the building, as communal spaces retain original features and architecture such as stained-glass windows.

How much does it cost to live at Nightingale House?

Those in receipt of a state pension and Pension Credit are invited to apply as housing costs may be partially or fully covered by these payments.

Availability

This final phase consists of 10 apartments on the ground floor of the building. There are three 2-bedroom apartments and seven 1-bedroom apartments in this phase, shown on the building floor plan below.

Originally built in the 19th century, then altered and extended over many decades, the building’s long history means today’s apartments are each unique in layout and size. The floor plan below shows an example of a one-bedroom apartment.

The first residents moved into Nightingale House during 2025 and the community is now well established. Many residents value the balance of having their own space alongside shared areas and activities, as well as the reassurance of on-site support during the week.

The former Royal Hospital had stood empty since its closure in 1997 and has now been brought back into use as high-quality homes for later life living.
