whg has responded to a plea to make a house a home in time for Christmas.

The leading Midlands’ landlord teamed up with Dodd Group in Operation Santa and transformed the customer’s home in just five days.

Work included painting rooms, wallpapering, installing new doors and re-carpeting, with donations flooding in from Blyth Group, Multifloor, Johnstone, Travis Perkin, Lovell and Jessup Brothers.

The project formed part of whg’s H Factor Social Prescribing Programme which provides a “more than medicine” approach to health and wellbeing. Customers are offered a safety net of social support that can help them to feel happier, hopeful and healthy.

The mother of three, who wishes to remain nameless, was struggling both financially and mentally when whg first contacted her to see how she was doing. Two of her children had health problems and life was getting on top of her. She was offered support from one of whg’s social prescribing link workers, who encouraged them to think about the positive changes they could make to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

She said: “I said I wanted my house to be a home but didn’t expect anything like this.

“whg have been wonderful and they went above and beyond what I expected. I am so grateful to them and to Dodd Group. When I walk in my living room now, I have a spring in my step.

“I was down and having a house in turmoil didn’t help but this has made such a difference.”

Donna Goodall, Social Value Co-ordinator, said: “This customer has been an inspiration for us all and we have seen a true difference in her from the beginning of the project until now. She has become more confident and states she feels so much more motivated, while our link worker has helped her overcome her anxiety and feel more hopeful about the future.

“I would like the opportunity to thank all contractors for coming together. I am truly overwhelmed with this project.”

James Kirby, Senior Operations Manager at Dodd Group, said: “It’s so pleasing to receive the customer’s comments and to see the impact our work can have on someone’s life.  It’s been truly heart-warming and my thanks go to whg for giving us this opportunity to work together.”
