Could you be one of our new Champions?

whg customers are being encouraged to take the chance to make a real difference in their communities while boosting their own skills and job prospects.

We have six new part-time employment opportunities for people living in Birchills, Caldmore, Darlaston, Pleck or Central Walsall – or with a strong connection to the area.

The four Community Health Champions and two Kindness Champions will help us support other customers in these communities who are struggling with loneliness and isolation.

Our Community Health Champions will focus on supporting people with or at risk of diabetes and associated illness or disabilities.

The Kindness Champions will focus on wellbeing, working with older customers at risk of poor health and wellbeing or managing a chronic illness or disability, helping them to age well and live their best life possible.

Connie Jennings, whg’s Head of Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are looking for people who are passionate about people and their local community, who are willing to use their own life experiences to make a difference for the benefit of others.

“These new roles offer a really exciting opportunity for people who want to improve not only the health and wellbeing of the people around them but also the welfare of their community as a whole.

“We will provide training to support candidates in their application for these jobs so, whether they are successful or not, they will gain valuable skills and experience to help them in any future job search.”

The posts are being advertised to locals as part of our work to help people into training and employment, and whg customers are encouraged to apply.

Applications are particularly welcomed from people who have personal experience or experience of caring for someone with diabetes.

Applicants who meet the criteria will be invited to take part in a part-time pre-employability training course, delivered in partnership with Walsall College, covering subjects such as communication, teamwork and interview skills.

Successful candidates are expected to be in post by the end of April, working 24 hours a week in their new roles.
