Gardening competition winners celebrated at special event
Green-fingered customers from across whg’s communities came together at Milton Place to celebrate the winners of this year’s Gardening Competition.
Almost forty entrants attended the awards event, held in the new community wellbeing garden in Palfrey.
The competition invited whg customers to share the outdoor spaces they are proud of, from private gardens and balconies to community growing spaces.
Awards were presented in four categories and winners each received a £75 voucher.
- Best garden
- Best balcony
- Best community garden
- Best sustainable garden
Customers also took part in a workshop led by Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust.
The event also gave visitors the chance to explore the Milton Place garden, which officially opened in July. The garden was created after customers asked for a welcoming outdoor space where they could relax, meet their neighbours and enjoy nature.
Previously a fly-tipping hotspot, the area includes accessible paving, raised planting beds, space for growing food and natural landscaping to support wildlife.

The Gardening Competition supports whg’s work to create greener spaces where customers can enjoy nature, connect with their neighbours and support local wildlife.
