The leading Midlands’ landlord is working with the Diwali Basket Brigade for the fifth year running to distribute food parcels to customers who may be finding it hard to feed themselves and their families.

More than 650 of the special Diwali hampers, which include enough healthy vegetarian food to nutritiously feed a family, will be delivered to customers  who have been nominated for the support during October. Thousands more will be delivered across Birmingham, Manchester and London.

Director of Stronger Communities Connie Jennings said: “The cost of living crisis is putting a huge financial strain on many of our customers, some of whom are being forced to choose between heating their home or eating.

Founder Deepak Parekh started Diwali Basket Brigade in 2018 as a way for the community to give back during Diwali. All activities are funded by kind donations from across the  community, with over £72,000 being raised since it began.

Deepak said: “Given the current cost of living crisis, the need to support under privileged families living in food poverty is more important than ever.  Diwali Basket Brigade is a our small contribution to this cause.”

In 2022 the initiative will provide 3,000 hampers, an increase of 500 hampers from last year. The hampers will reach families in London and Manchester as well as in Birmingham, where the initiative began.
