This month we are really excited to be celebrating our 20th birthday.

Exactly two decades ago, on 27 March 2003, whg was formed as a result of a housing stock transfer from Walsall Council.

Since then we’ve expanded out of Walsall and now have a presence in 19 local authorities, cementing our reputation as a leading provider of affordable homes and services to people across the Midlands.

Over that time we’ve built 3809 new homes – 1863 of these were built in Walsall. That’s enough bricks to build 63 Buckingham Palaces or lay a line of bricks almost 6000 miles long – enough to get you to Japan.

We’ve also taken 3.8m calls in our call centre –the equivalent of a single person being on the phone for 58 years, carried out 2.3m repairs and welcomed more than 2000 colleagues.

Fast forward to today and we now house around 40,000 people and have a turnover in excess of £120 million.

Gary Fulford, whg’s Group Chief Executive: “We formed in 2003 so that we could invest in our homes and improve our services.  Since that date we have invested more than £1 billion in Walsall and we have become recognised as one of the leading housing associations operating in the Midlands.

“I am extremely proud of the work we have done to create sustainable and resilient communities and am excited about how we will continue to grow and develop over the next 20 years.”
