whg has committed to the future with the launch of its first Sustainability Strategy.

The leading Midland’s landlord published the new roadmap this month, setting out how it will support communities to flourish and endure while preparing for the impacts of climate change.

The strategy goes beyond protection of the environment, covering health and wellbeing initiatives and creating employment opportunities for customers.

whg sets out its pledges in three key areas:

  • Environment – transforming places to be fit for the future.
  • Social – inspiring people and influencing communities.
  • Governance – incorporating sustainability standards and regulatory compliance

The strategy has been aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals; a collection of interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.”

Sustainability Lead Jo Shields said: “We are committed to creating thriving communities that support customers in their homes. Our sustainability efforts are at the heart of this work and a core guiding principal for how we operate.

“Our challenge is to deliver sustainability in and environment where we know our customers priorities are driven by making difficult choices due to low income and high levels of deprivation. Our ambition will be to deliver for both our people and the planet in a considered, informed and sustainable way.

“We have already embarked on this journey and are proud to be a carbon literate organisation. Whether it be by reducing fuel poverty or achieving net zero carbon by 2050we we continue to pursue better lives for our customers, even as the climate emergency brings new challenges to us all.”
