Your lease sets out what changes you can make to your shared ownership home. Some improvements need written permission before you start.
Making improvements
Your home is yours to enjoy and make your own. You can usually decorate and make minor changes, such as painting, putting up shelves or replacing carpets, without asking our permission.
You will need to contact us before making any significant or permanent changes, such as:
- removing walls or changing the layout
- building an extension, conservatory or loft conversion
- replacing windows or external doors
- making changes that affect the structure or outside of your home
Always check your lease and get our written permission before starting any major work. You may also need planning permission or building regulations approval.
Please contact us with details of what you would like to do. We will explain what information we need and whether any conditions apply. Making changes without the correct permission could cause problems when you staircase or sell your home.
When permission is needed
Permission is usually required for:
- structural changes
- replacing windows or doors
- flooring changes in flats
- extensions or external alterations
- sheds, satellite dishes or EV chargers
- subletting

Decorating
Cosmetic decoration, such as painting walls, usually does not need permission.
