Walsall community garden secures long-term future
A popular community garden in Walsall has been given a fresh lease on life with a renewed commitment ensuring its future for many years to come.
Caldmore Community Garden will continue to flourish thanks to a long-term lease extension agreed jointly between whg and Caldmore Village Festival Group (CVF).
The news comes during National Gardening Week which celebrates the benefits of gardening and encourages more people to enjoy the outdoors.
The once-derelict land, owned by whg, has been leased to the charity CVF since 2011. It has played a key role in transforming it into a vibrant community hub.
Sarah Clarke, Director of Housing and Customer Services at whg, said: “We are proud to continue our partnership with CVF and reaffirm our commitment to creating vibrant, welcoming neighbourhoods. This lease extension secures the future of Caldmore Community Garden as a cherished space where diverse communities come together to enjoy the outdoors.”
Mohammed Arif, Chair of Caldmore Village Festival Group Board, said: “We are delighted to have agreed this lease extension with whg. The longer-term lease will allow CVF to apply for more funding and offer more activities for the community. whg has been a valued partner since we established CVF to bring the garden and the house into community use, and we are grateful for their continued support and trust in our work.”
The long-term extension underscores whg’s commitment to supporting community initiatives and ensures that the garden will remain a place for residents to connect, grow and enjoy nature.
Caldmore Community Garden is open to all free of charge.
