Chair & Board Member

Nicola McGowan is a senior leader with over 25 years of experience in risk, control, assurance, and finance. Nicola has a proven track record of leading high-performing teams through significant change and transformation in large, complex organisations. Currently serving as Assistant Director, Audit and Risk Assurance at the General Medical Council, Nicola leads on risk and assurance matters across all areas of regulation.

Nicola has held senior audit and finance roles at Travis Perkins plc, GKN plc and Telent plc. In addition to executive roles, Nicola is an active non-executive and trustee, currently serving as an Independent Board Member and Senior Independent Governor at Birmingham City University and as Trustee and Finance Committee Chair at Moseley Road Baths. Nicola holds qualifications including FCA and Masters degrees from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Nicola is currently a whg Board member and the Chair of the Audit and Assurance Committee.
