Hundreds of whg homes transformed in £4m energy upgrade with E.ON

Leading Midlands housing association whg has successfully completed a major energy efficiency programme in partnership with E.ON, helping hundreds of customers reduce their energy use and costs.

The project, delivered through the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), has seen around £4 million invested in energy efficiency improvements across 292 homes in and around Walsall.

Works included solar panel installation, insulation and improved ventilation to make homes warmer, more energy efficient and more affordable to run.

Many of the improvements were completed ahead of winter, meaning customers were able to benefit from lower energy use during the colder months.

As well as helping customers lower their energy use and bills, the project has also given customers the ability to generate their own power with solar panels.

Rob Gilham, Corporate Director of Strategy, Assets and Transformation at whg, said:

“We are proud to have delivered this project with E.ON as part of our commitment to creating sustainable, thriving communities.

“These improvements are helping customers reduce their energy costs while making our homes warmer, healthier and more affordable to live in.”

whg customer, Linda, said:

“The installation process was so smooth, and I can’t fault the solar panels.”

“I did my washing and drying all in one day and my energy bills have come down so much. The money this is saving me is fabulous and it’s well worth having done.”

Building on this success, whg is planning further energy efficiency upgrades through the government’s Warm Homes funding programme.

This next phase of work will build on whg’s strong partnership with E.ON, including a focus on delivering social value in local communities. Alongside improving homes, the programme will create opportunities for whg customers to access training and work experience, helping them gain skills and qualifications for careers in the growing green skills sector.
