Leading Midland’s landlord whg has scooped a national award in recognition of its ground-breaking fire safety project.

The Walsall-based housing association picked up the Innovator of the Year: Technology Award at the UK Housing Awards, which were held virtually on 3 December.

whg worked with digital design and engineering group Deeo, utilising the Twinnedit platform to build 3D models of all 17 of its high rise buildings.

Using the Twinnedit Business Information Modelling (BIM) the computerised versions can be accessed by the fire service, who can log on to an app in the event of a fire, and assess the incident before arriving at the scene.

Paul Dockerill, Director of Energy and Programme Management, said: “We are delighted and proud to have won the Innovation of the Year award.

hg and Deeo’s Twinned It project scooped the award for creating digital twins of our high rise blocks that will have a significant and positive impact on building safety – not just for whg but potentially for the housing sector as a whole. We should be particularly proud as the impact it will have will enhance the safety of thousands of residents living in high rise blocks.”

whg was also highly commended in the Digital Landlord of the Year category for its work to ensure no customer is left behind in an increasingly online world.

The UK Housing Awards, run by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), are the largest and longest-running awards in the sector and are now in their third decade.
