whg Brings Light to Vulnerable Households this Diwali

Volunteers from whg have brought light to vulnerable households this Diwali after teaming up with a local charity.

The leading Midlands’ landlord joined forces with The Diwali Foundation, a registered charity who run the annual Diwali Basket Brigade (DBB) Project, to deliver 300 food hampers to customers who may be struggling to feed themselves and their families.

The hampers included essential non-perishable food items and toiletries including toothpaste, hand gel and face masks.

The DBB Project was created by the brother of a whg colleague, who wished to give something back to the community.

Founder Deepak Parekh said: “Diwali is a time of celebration and happiness, but unfortunately there are many people in our communities who, for whatever reason, don’t have much to cheer about.  Some families struggle to make ends meet, while others are simply feeling lonely or rejected by society. DBB is our small effort to support and spread the message of hope, happiness and giving at Diwali.”

Connie Jennings, Head of Health and Wellbeing, added: “With foodbanks more stretched than ever due to the coronavirus pandemic, and many people seeing their incomes drop, hamper projects such as this are vital to support those in food poverty.

“The DBB Project is an amazing initiative that is making a real difference in local communities. My thanks go to Deepak and his team for offering his support to whg, and colleagues who have given up their time to deliver the parcels.”
