You can also follow our 10 top tips to save up to £236 a year on your bills:

  1. Avoid using standby on electrical devices
    Leaving appliances on standby can cost you £35 per year.
  2. Reduce showering time by one minute
    One minute less saves £17 per year.
  3. Turn the thermostat down by 1 °C
    This could reduce your heating bill by up to 10%. You won’t notice the difference and could save £55 per year.
  4. Wash clothes at 30°C
    Reducing the temperature of your wash from 40°C to 30°C could save you £13 a year.
  5. Only boil as much water as needed
    Boiling only as much as you need could save you £6 a year.
  6. Wash up in a bowl rather under a tap
    This could save you £25 a year
  7. Maximise washing loads
    Use your washing machine and dishwasher once less each week to save £16 a year.
  8. Draught proof your home
    Tuck curtains behind the radiator and close internal doors, Draught proofing your home could save you £25 a year.
  9. Switch bulbs to LED bulbs
    This could save you £30 a year.
  10. Turn lights off
    Switching lights off around the home when they are not in use can save around £14 a year.
