A scheme to support families affected by the pandemic has helped more than 400 Walsall families stay warm this winter.

Leading Midlands’ landlord whg received £20,534 from the COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

The emergency fund has been used to support 489 households since September, who were struggling to pay their fuel bills due to loss of income or increased fuel use.

Assistant Manager Ravi Chonk said: “The pandemic has had a huge impact on many people’s finances, either through job loss or furlough. In addition to that, home schooling and being forced to stay at home, comes with additional costs – an increase in energy use being one example.

“This grant has been a lifeline to some of our customers, with some saying they were being forced to choose between keeping their home warm or other basic provisions. These fuel vouchers have helped household meet these increased costs and ensured some of our most vulnerable households have been safe and warm over the coldest months.”
