Money advisers at whg have scooped a national award for their work to support those struggling to manage their finances during the pandemic.

The nine-strong team won the 2020 Special Achievement Award in the IMA Money Advice Awards.

The new category was introduced to recognise the extra efforts made by those in the advice sector throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

During 2020 the Money Advice Team saw referral rates rocket by 41%, with many customers needing crisis financial support.

In 2020 they supported 1,226 customers to access £2.7 million in unclaimed benefits and helped 341 customers to resolve their debts. They removed the risk of homelessness for over 40 customers and issued £21,000 of fuel vouchers to over 500 customers as part of their Fuel Poverty initiative.

Assistant Manager (Tenancy Services) Ravi Chonk said: “The team have gone above and beyond over the last year, maximising income for customers and preventing debts from spiralling out of control. This work had a far-reaching impact, saving people from losing the roof over their head or ensuring they were able to feed their families or heat their homes.

“This was all achieved in difficult circumstances, where we were not able to meet customers face-to-face. I’m delighted that they have been recognised in this way.”
