whg has been recognised as a great place to work, after being shortlisted in the Express and Star Business Awards 2019.
The leading Midlands landlord has made it through to the finals in the Best Place to Work Category, after impressing judges with its commitment to its workforce.
From its own talent management programmes to develop future leaders, to a recognition scheme to reward colleague achievements, whg has successfully built a positive work culture and a reputation as a great employer.
In the last year the housing association launched a number of initiatives to support and reward colleagues. These included a week-long Festival of Learning, where colleagues had the opportunity to share and showcase their skills and talents with others by leading workshops, and a health and wellbeing programme Be a Better You.
As well as providing technical and professional development opportunities, whg believes it is equally important to look after the physical and mental wellbeing of colleagues, and in 2018 a whole range of workshops were launched dedicated to supporting this in the workplace. These included workshops in mindfulness, stress awareness and yoga.
Last year also saw all leaders and managers in the business complete the Mental Health First Aid qualification, to enable them to better identify, understand and support colleagues’ mental wellbeing.
Theresa Huburn, Corporate Director of People and Learning, said: “We believe that our greatest asset is our people and that our success as a business depends largely on the calibre and commitment of colleagues.
“We encourage all our colleagues to be the best they can be, and through our investment, we have built a positive work culture and a reputation as a great employer – where colleagues can shine and enjoy what they do.”
whg will now be visited by a panel of judges before finding out if they have won at a black tie event on June 6 at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
