We are one of the Midlands' leading and most successful providers of affordable homes.

whg has been named the Social Housing Project winner in a national industry award for promoting energy-efficiency.

The leading Midlands landlord was recognised for the outstanding, energy-efficient solutions provided to its customers, at Worcester, Bosch Group’s 16th annual E2020 Awards. This year’s ceremony was held at the stunning Spring Grove House, in Bewdley, Worcestershire, where nominees were invited from across the country to see the winners revealed.

The E2020 Awards, which were established by Worcester in 2000, have been designed to promote best practice and reward those who have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable heating and hot water solutions, and renewable technologies.

whg was the clear winner of the award due to its focus on reliable and efficient heating as part of the group’s first purpose-built wellbeing scheme, called Cardan Pointe, on the recently regenerated Waterfront in Walsall.

Designed to meet the long-term needs of the local population, one of the priorities for the £5.5 million development was that each property came equipped with an adequate heating and hot water system. As a result, the community of 44 quality affordable homes, for people aged over 55, were installed with a high-efficiency combi boiler.

Speaking of the award win, Andy Pritchard, whg’s Gas Maintenance Manager said: “We have worked with Worcester for many years and have installed the reliable systems throughout many of our other sites. We know that tenants have always been happy with Worcester boilers, and we have both been impressed with how energy efficient they are so it was an easy decision to fit them again in our latest development.”

Martyn Bridges, director of technical support at Worcester, Bosch Group, commented: “The Environment 2020 awards are our chance to celebrate the industry’s champions of efficient and renewable technologies. From the high standard of entries received this year it is fantastic to see so many installers are committed to helping protect our environment and make our homes and commercial buildings as energy-efficient as possible.

“Our Environment 2020 Awards have been so well received since their introduction 16 years ago and, year on year, the innovation and forward thinking shown never ceases to inspire. We look forward already to seeing more examples of excellent installation and specification work when we begin judging entries next year.

“Amongst many deserving nominees, we felt whg stood out through its dedication to providing residents with reliable and efficient heating and hot water as well as energy- efficiency as a whole.”

Now in its 16th year, the Environment 2020 Awards aim to highlight the importance of reducing the country’s carbon emissions, which is now aiming to reduce total emissions by 80% by 2050.
