whg has been recognised for the second year running for the work it does in improving the lives of people across the borough.
The leading Midlands landlord has been announced as a Walsall Works Gold partner once again for the positive impact it has had on the prosperity and wellbeing of customers.
Over the last year whg has continued to invest in the borough, helping more than 1100 people improve their job prospects. Many of these have attended whg’s dedicated training centre, The Workplace, in Leamore, while other have made the most of whg’s drop in work clubs held across the town, where jobseekers are able to pick up advice and support from dedicated employment and skills officers.
Walsall residents have also benefited from whg’s Black Country Click Start programme, which this year has helped more than 600 people improve their financial and digital skills.
As part of its commitment to improving the skills and employability of local people, 2018 saw whg directly employ 13 apprentices, as well as join forces with Walsall College to offer industrial placements as part of the pilot for the new T level qualification. It also continued to develop its strong relationships with local schools to improve attainment.
In September this year whg recruited a dedicated Social Value Co-ordinator to further drive, embed and co-ordinate social value across the business.
Julie Haywood, whg’s Director of Community Investment said: “At whg our focus is not simply on providing good quality and affordable homes. We are passionate about helping our customers to thrive and have a positive impact on their lives through offering a whole range of support across the organisation.
“We are also committed to ensuring that our work within local communities continues to boost and add value to the local economy.
“We are delighted to pick up this award for the second time and look forward to working with Walsall Works in the future as we continue to look at new ways of creating prosperity for residents and stimulating growth in the local economy.”
Colleagues from whg picked up the award during the Walsall Works Expo, held at The Hub at Walsall College on Thursday 15th March.
The 2019 Walsall Works Partner Awards aim to recognise the positive difference that organisations make to people and communities.
