Leading Midlands’ landlord whg has given a financial boost to the fire service to support the vital work of one of the UK’s only fire dogs.
The housing association presented a cheque for £1000 to Fire Dog Kai and his handler Matthew Dixon, who work for West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS), on 3rd September.
The cash will be used on training equipment to help Kai develop his skills in sniffing out evidence and for a dog first aid course.
Paul Dockerill, Director of Energy and Programme Management, said: “Fire Dog Kai is a vital member of the fire service team and works in dangerous environments with his owner Matt.
“It’s been a privilege to work and partner with the fire service, particularly the brigade teams working in the Walsall area, to create a safe environment for our communities and neighbourhoods.
“We met Kai 18 months ago and were super impressed with his skills to help support fire safety and investigation. He can only do this with the valuable support and training from the WMFS.
“We are proud to offer our support to the WMFS for the great service provided by Kai and Matt.”
Kai is one of just 15 fire investigation search dogs in the UK who works with the fire service to find forensic evidence after a fire and help find people who are trapped.
The grant was awarded through whg’s STAR fund, which provides grants to the voluntary and community sector.
