Colleagues from leading Midlands’ landlord whg are returning to study to help them progress in their chosen careers.
The group of seven Community Champions and four volunteers have signed up to a one year part-time course at Walsall College
They’ll be spending one day a week in college, gaining their Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Social and Community Work.
The qualification will teach the champions the skills they need to understand how people think, feel and behave along with how service delivery can impact upon the communities they are working in. The course will assist the champions to shape services from customers’ perspectives, along with helping them to improve their own future employment prospects.
Community Champion Shafeen Khan said: “I’m really excited to go to college. I love working with my own local community and completing this course will help me to do an even better job.
“By going back into education I’m setting a great example for my children and also demonstrating to others in my community how whg really invests in customers and colleagues - which is a win-win!”
Social Inclusion Manager Connie Jennings said: “Our community champions are customers who have been recruited to support other customers in their own communities. Champions help customers find out what they are good at so they can help themselves to have a better life. Upskilling our champions in this way will help them to really understand the theory behind what they are already doing in their day-to-day role. It’s a brilliant opportunity for them.”
