Unsung heroes of the community were praised at a glittering awards ceremony held by leading Midlands landlord whg.

More than 200 people attended whg’s Recognising our Customers and Communities (ROCCs) Awards 2019, which were held at The Stadium Suite of Banks’s Stadium, Walsall on Wednesday, 10th July.

Ten winners were announced on the night, and were presented with their awards by whg Chief Executive, Gary Fulford and Chair of the Board Danielle Oum.

Guests included Mayor Councillor Paul Bott and, Mayoress Councillor Chris Bott. They were entertained by historian Professor Carl Chinn with performances by Walsall Studio School and Butts Primary School.

Among the winners was Ann Hasketh, who was named Outstanding Customer for her commitment to helping families in her community. Ann’s work includes running a toddler group for 11 years, offering breastfeeding support to new mums and organising an art group at a local allotment.

Other winners included David Wright, who picked up Volunteer of the Year for his work to run a fishing group and Outstanding Learner Vicky Lenoir, who is moving onto a plastering apprenticeship after completing a Women into Construction course. Meanwhile community group Women of Walsall achieved the Digital Champion Award after clocking up more than 4,000 hours of IT training in just six months.

Gary Fulford, whg’s Chief Executive, said: “From giving up their own time to give back to the community, to making sure their environment is clean and tidy to simply being a helping hand for their neighbours, all of our winners and nominees play their part in creating a positive place for others.

“I’m delighted to present them with these awards to thank them for all their hard work in making their communities a great place to live.”
