We are one of the Midlands' leading and most successful providers of affordable homes.

whg has taken on their next generation of apprentices, following a successful recruitment campaign.

More than 500 people applied for the 12 apprentice vacancies on offer by the leading Midlands landlord.

The campaign saw whg take to social media account Snapchat for the first time to encourage people to attend its first-ever Apprentice Open Evening in June.

Followers were able to see behind the scenes of whg and hear from colleagues who had joined the Midlands landlord as an apprentice. More than 100 people attended the open evening, with 532 people applying for the opportunities available.

Following a tough recruitment process, the 12 successful applicants have now started their journey at whg, in roles across its Accountancy, Business Administration, Housing Management, Surveying, Gas Engineering and IT teams.

Among the new cohort is Laxman Swali, aged 25 and from Wolverhampton, who has joined whg as an Apprentice Gas Engineer.

He said: “I went to university where I completed a degree in sports and exercise science, but after university, I felt there weren’t many opportunities out there for me.

“I didn’t realise that I could start an apprenticeship because I was over 24, but when I found out I could, I looked around for options and spotted the opportunities at whg. I wanted to do something practical, so I researched whg and thought it seemed a brilliant company to work for.

“I’ve been here for four weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. The team I work in are really supportive - I’ve got stuck in and I’ve been able to shadow another colleague and learn the tools of the trade.”

Theresa Huburn, whg’s Corporate Director of People and Learning, said: “We had an overwhelming number of applicants for our 12 vacancies and we are delighted to see the new recruits now in post.

“As a leading Midlands housing provider, we are absolutely committed to developing our young people and investing in their skills. Housing is a really diverse and exciting sector to be a part of and we are looking forward to seeing the difference our new cohort of apprentices will make here at whg.”

whg is currently advertising for two Apprentice Administrators to join its Electrical and Employment and Training Team. To find out more about these vacancies, which close on 15th October 2017, click here.
