People from across Walsall have grabbed their knitting needles to love bomb Walsall, as part of a campaign to recognise the amazing work of volunteers.

Leading Midlands’ landlord whg has encouraged customers to decorate the borough with colourful knitted hearts as part of Volunteers Week, which takes place from 1 to 7 June.

Each heart will recognise one of the thousands of volunteers who gave up their time to support others during the pandemic.

The hearts have been hung in whg’s wellbeing schemes and Walsall Manor Hospital as a celebration of love and hope after lockdown.

Head of Health and Wellbeing Connie Jennings said: “Over the last 12 months so many members of our community have come forward and devoted their time to supporting others.

“We want to show our appreciation to these unsung heroes, as well as spread a bit of hope and happiness across Walsall by hanging hearts in our neighbourhoods.

“Knitting is a great way to relax and improve your mental wellbeing and we hope this activity will bring the community together after what has been an exceptionally hard 12 months.”
