whg has been commended by Dame Judith Hackitt for its groundbreaking building safety work.

The housing association was singled out in a report from the Industry Safety Steering Group on the progress of culture change in the built environment industry.

The independent report, which assesses progress towards improving building safety, praised whg for pioneering a digital platform which support fire safety management. The app, called Twinned It, used Business Information Modelling (BIM) to generate 3D models of its high rise blocks which can be shared with residents and fire and rescue services. The project has also been given the seal of approval by West Midlands Fire Service, who said that the technology would save them time in assessing incidents and help them make early decisions.

Paul Dockerill, Director of Energy and Programme Management, said: “It’s a huge testament to the work we have been carrying out over the last few years that Dame Judith Hackitt has recognised whg as a leader in building safety in her latest Industry Safety Steering Group report to the Secretary of State.

“Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy our Fire Safety Group has made significant efforts to reassure customers about fire safety.

“Resident engagement has been at the heart of our building safety programme and without them we wouldn’t be trailblazing this new technology. It’s fantastic to see other housing providers adopt our technology and we look forward to building on our work together so everyone has a safe place to call home.”
