whg's Group Chief Executive, Gary Fulford, has responded to the publication of the Government's Housing White Paper.

He said: "It is good that the Government has acknowledged that the current housing market is broken and has not delivered the number of homes that are needed.

“We welcome that the Government is taking steps to address this issue and is shifting the focus from home ownership to more investment in homes for rent. There is a genuine need for affordable homes in the Midlands and we welcome the opportunities within the Housing White Paper to help us build more homes to rent and buy at affordable prices.

“whg is currently on site with 1,000 properties throughout the Midlands and have ambitious plans to increase our development programme to help deliver the Government’s aspirations to build more homes.

“We have recently secured £22.1 million through the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme 2016 to 2021, which will allow us to build 751 new homes across a number of tenures including rent to buy, shared ownership homes and older person homes for sale and rent.”
