whg is taking to Snapchat for the first time, in a drive to recruit more apprentices.
The leading Midlands landlord has launched its own Snapchat account, called whg KickStart. It will encourage people to visit whg’s first-ever Apprentice Open Evening and find out more about the apprenticeships on offer.
In the run-up to the inaugural event, Snapchat followers will be able to see useful tips about the apprenticeships and will get to see behind the scenes of whg providing a real sense of its work culture.
The account will also give a platform to colleagues who joined whg as an apprentice, so they can share their experience with potential applicants.
Among those sharing their story is Trainee Carpenter Jo Harrison. Jo joined whg as an apprentice in July 2013 and is the only female colleague in whg’s growing Trades Team.
The 24-year-old, from Darlaston, said: “I had previously worked in retail and knew I wanted a career in trades, but didn’t know which particular area I wanted to work in. Since joining whg, I’ve been given lots of experience in different areas and have been able to apply my skills outside the work place.
“What I enjoy most is that the organisation is diverse and we all work together as one team. Working at whg has given me a lot of confidence and I’d encourage other people looking for an apprenticeship to give it a go.”
People will be able to find out more about the roles available at whg’s Apprenticeship Open Evening, which will be held at its Hatherton Street office in Walsall.
There are 12 vacancies on offer throughout whg in Accountancy, Business Administration, Housing Management, Surveying, Gas Engineering and IT.
The event will be held on Monday, 19th June between 6pm and 8pm and anyone interested in the roles can simply drop-in to find out more.
Theresa Huburn, whg’s Director of HR, said: “We are really looking forward to our first-ever Apprenticeship Open Evening at whg. Housing is a diverse and rewarding sector to work within and we encourage anyone looking to launch their career to come along and see the fantastic job opportunities that are on offer.
“Using Snapchat to promote the event is an innovative way to communicate with our target audience. It will also give potential applicants the opportunity to see what working for whg is really like, which will help put them at ease. Colleagues who have joined our business as apprentices have some really useful advice, and by sharing their stories on Snapchat, we hope to inspire others who want to kick start their career.”
