whg are celebrating #CommunitiesThatWork week! It's a national campaign highlighting the ways social housing providers help people into work.
We'll be sharing some inspiring success stories from our Employment and Training Team.
Shelley Brown had completed previous trades courses but signed up for UPLIFT, whg’s new Women into Construction Programme, so that she could add painting and decorating to her skills too.
She said: “The programme is a productive way to spend my time. It fits around my childcare responsibilities, costs me nothing and I’m doing something with my life.
“I’m not just sitting in a classroom but actually getting hands on and doing the work.
“In a mixed class I think I would feel under pressure to prove myself but here, because it’s all women, I can just relax and enjoy the experience.”
