We are one of the Midlands' leading and most successful providers of affordable homes.

whg works in partnership with statutory and third sector organisations to try and prevent homelessness.

whg is working to fight homelessness through proactive work from our housing teams and positive relationships with partner agencies.

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness:

Please contact your local authority in the first instance. If you are in Walsall Borough, this is Walsall Council. They will advise you about securing your current accommodation or making alternative provision. You should register with our Choose & Move service at the same time.

whg's approach to homelessness prevention

Homelessness is on the rise nationally, and as a socially conscious, community focused social housing landlord, whg are committed to playing our part; both strategically by working with our local authority partners, and operationally by doing all that we can to sustain tenancies.

We work proactively and collaboratively to tackle homelessness:

  • What is the Commitment to Refer?

In 2018, whg pledged to help halt homelessness by signing up to the National Housing Federation’s Commitment to Refer.

The Commitment to Refer is a voluntary counterpart to the Duty to Refer, part of the Homelessness Reduction Act. Under the Commitment to Refer, whg will refer our customers who are at risk of becoming homeless, and those living with them, to the local authority. We will also refer people we come into contact with through any of the other services we offer.

Whilst housing associations are not bound by the obligations of the Homelessness Reduction Act, whg has nevertheless pledged to meet it as a demonstration of our commitment to support those in need.

This pledge further reflects whg’s ongoing efforts to fight homelessness through proactive work from our housing teams and positive relationships with partner agencies.

The Commitment to Refer has been developed by the National Housing Federation (NHF) alongside the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
