  • Thinking of getting a smart meter?

If you’re thinking of getting a smart meter in your home to help manage your energy use, you should check you are getting the latest type - called SMETS2.

A SMETS2 meter will still work even if you later decide to switch energy suppliers. An older SMETS1 type of meter could lose its ‘smart’ functions if you switch suppliers.

Ask your supplier if they can provide a SMETS2 meter instead of a SMETS1 meter. If they can’t give you a SMETS2 yet, it may be worth waiting to avoid future problems.

If you have any questions or would like more information about smart meters, please contact the whg Energy Team using the form below.

  • What do you know about smart meters?

Energy bills can be hard to get our heads round. Estimates mean that we are often in the dark and left confused when it comes to our energy usage.

Between now and 2020, every home in England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter from their energy supplier at no extra cost and it’s a smart choice to consider.

Smart meters offer a host of benefits including:

    • Accurate bills in pounds and pence instead of estimates
    • No more meter readings
    • Easier to keep control of your energy usage
    • If you pre-pay, it’s convenient to top up and there’s no need to insert keys or cards into meters

This autumn, whg will be here to help our customers understand the benefits of smart meters. If you are approached by your energy supplier to install a smart meter and want some advice please contact our Energy Team.
