The Community Health Team aims to help improve and maintain Health and Wellbeing by providing information advice and support around healthy lifestyle choices. We offer a range of programmes and activities that can be delivered in local community venues, including some aimed at the over 50s.
Nifty over 50
This is a 12 week programme which focuses on an holistic approach to healthy ageing. It covers many aspects including healthy eating, nutrition and weight management, emotional wellbeing and mini health checks.
Older persons exercise programmes
- Walking Football
Aimed at men over 50, walking football is a popular way of engaging older people in physical activity. It aims to improve both physical and mental health. Programme offered in partnership with Walsall Football Club Community Partnership. For dates and times, click here.
- Walking Netball
Aimed at women over 50, this is a slower version of the game and has been designed so that anyone can play regardless of age and fitness level. Programme offered in partnership with England Netball.
- Touch Tennis
Touch Tennis is played on a small court, with 21 inch rackets and foam balls; it can be played on any flat space, indoors or outside. The specifically designed ball and unique rules create a level playing field, whereby people with different abilities can enjoy playing together. For dates and times, click here.
- Over 50s exercise sessions
Regardless of how fit you are, regular exercise provides plenty of benefits for older people, including improved memory, greater physical ability, better overall quality of life and improved mental wellbeing. For example, circuit training can increase strength, increase muscle, develop balance and improve cardiovascular health and potentially reduce the risk of falls. For dates and times, click here.
