Aids and adaptations

Aids and adaptations are changes we make to your home to help you live more comfortably and independently.

They can be simple things like a handrail to help you move around your home more easily through to larger works like special showers and ramps which are essential to help you stay in your own home.

We class aids adaptations as either minor or major.

Minor aids and adaptations

These are basic changes we can make to your home at no cost to you. Contact us to discuss your needs and if we agree to carry out the work, we will offer you an appointment to carry out the work within 28 days.

Minor aids and adaptations include fitting items such as:

• grab rails
• hand rails
• half-steps
• lever handles.

Major aids and adaptations

These are more significant jobs and we will need to carry out an assessment of your individual needs before we agree to carry out these types of aids and adaptations.

Sometimes it may not be possible or practical to make adaptations to your current home. If this is the case, we will talk to you about the choices available to you. This may be a move to a property that has already been adapted, a move to somewhere that can be adapted or a move to a different type of home. For example from a house with stairs to an apartment or bungalow.
