older people's services

whg’s Older People’s Services team is committed to supporting those over the age of 55.  older people's services Our key aim is to provide help to improve quality of life by enabling individuals to remain independent, active and healthy for longer.

By providing services that encourage independence, physical and emotional health, we hope to enable people to live in their own homes and empower them to make decisions which will improve the quality and standard of life.

Who is it for?

This support is available to people aged 55 and over, who live in the Walsall borough and who have a support need, irrespective of the type of accommodation they live in (including social housing, privately rented, owner occupied).

How we can help?

There are many ways we can help support individuals to improve independence within their accommodation and in the community.

We know people have different needs and we will provide a flexible, person- centred approach to help meet those needs. Helping people to establish and maintain independence in their own home is one of the key objectives of our floating support service.

The service will provide short-term support, up to 1 year. We have a dedicated team of support workers who have the practical experience to provide you with help to:

  • fill in forms
  • claim correct benefits and grants to maximise income
  • develop daily living skills
  • move to more suitable accommodation if this is necessary to improve independence
  • access health services
  • make social relationships
  • join social activities
  • keep accommodation warm, safe and comfortable
  • access local community organisations
  • access services to meet your individual needs.

When you first contact us we will assess the amount of help you need and look at the specific ways we may be able to make things easier for you.  Where we are unable to help with a specific need identified during the initial assessment, we will signpost to other suitable support providers or appropriate services, to meet this need.
