major improvement programmes

partner logosSince the transfer from Walsall Council in March 2003, whg and its partners have been fully committed to making major improvements to our homes to bring the properties up to the Government's Decent Home Standard. The standard means that all homes must be wind and weather tight, provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort and reasonably modern facilities and services.

We met the Decent Homes Standard two years ahead of the 2010 deadline and have already invested over £350 million in vital improvements including:

  • replacing windows in 13,500 homes
  • fitting 12,000 kitchens
  • replacing 11,000 bathrooms
  • rewiring 7,000 homes
  • installing 10,100 heating and insulation systems

This year's improvement programme is scheduled to take place in community areas which have been ranked using national statistics and whg data. A preliminary list of work to take place is drafted based on data we hold about properties in these areas. A surveyor then visits homes in the areas identified to inspect the current condition of the property and identify any further work that might be required.

improvement work is carried out in conjunction with our partners Wates and Frank Haslam Milan. The community areas and streets within those areas that we are working on this year are detailed in the link below.
