Brownhills masterplan

whg recognises the importance of seeking the views of the community when drawing up plans for regeneration.

There can be no better example of the whg commitment to this principle than the Brownhills' masterplan.  At two public consultation events residents were shown two concepts for the area.  The majority favoured the option of redeveloping the housing to provide a mix of tenure and property types.

These plans include:

  • new homes, including three canalside developments providing more than 200 new properties
  • improvements to the High Street
  • improved parking for existing housing
  • improvements to the towpath
  • new pedestrian routes linking the High Street to the canal.

This masterplan is a long-term vision that will transform Brownhills.  A range of new homes will be built that will be available to rent and buy, including affordable housing to be offered on a shared ownership basis.  This will be particularly attractive to those residents who wish to make that first crucial move onto the property ladder.  By providing a range of housing, Brownhills is set to become a thriving local centre where people want to live, work and visit.

New housing developments at the eastern gateway to Brownhills will be the first phase. whg will build up to 90 mixed tenure, two bedroom flats opposite a new extra care facility of 60 flats being delivered by Walsall Council.

Construction of the first phase will begin in 2009 and completion is scheduled for 2010. Further phases of new build housing will follow over the next five to 10 years.
