about us

our mission - "to provide affordable, good quality, community-based services, run for local people and delivered by well trained professional colleagues."

Walsall Housing Group (whg) was created as a result of the Midland’s largest and most successful transfer of social housing.

We are a not-for-profit group of companies delivering housing and community services across the borough. The Group is led by Walsall Housing Group and includes our regeneration subsidiary (VIEW) and a trading company providing services to others.

We work closely with residents and communities. A vital part of this are our five local areas – tenant-majority committees of Walsall Housing Group. They provide the focus of our work in five local neighbourhoods based on Walsall’s traditional communities. They each nominate a tenant committee member to the Walsall Housing Group Board.

Since 22,800 homes were transferred from Walsall Council in March 2003, our investment of over £350 million in Walsall has ensured that all our properties have reached the Decent Homes Standard ahead of target and future investment plans are in place to ensure this remains the case. We have also made considerable investment in improving services and customers’ satisfaction has doubled over the last six years.

We are excited about our future. In our Corporate Plan for 2008-2011, we have set ourselves challenging, aspirational, evidence-based group goals. As a key delivery partner in Walsall Partnerships, we have ensured that these align with Walsall’s Sustainable Community Strategy and its wider plans for the future success and prosperity of Walsall and its residents.

We have a central role in driving the regeneration of the borough. Amongst many initiatives, the development of new affordable homes is already underway, backed by the Homes and Communities Agency, where we have preferred partner status; a housing and health partnership is in place; we have a thriving construction Skills Centre; and we work closely with the local Education Business Partnership .

whg is a local social business; big enough to deliver national priorities and local enough to implement them at neighbourhood level.
